Nicholas Bolton and auDA Battle Over .AU Registry Accreditation

Nicholas Bolton, an IT entrepreneur who was recently awarded $4.5 million because of a “secret deal“, will now be taking the .AU Domain Administration (auDA) to court after it stripped one of his company’s accreditation rights to register domain names.

The auDA banned Australian Style, owned by Bolton, from acting as a registrar in February 2009 – one of the bigger events in a series of skirmishes between Bolton and auDA’s CEO Chris Disspain. After the ban, Bolton transferred the 15,000 customers from Australian Style to another registrar owned by him, Bottle Domains. The auDA responded by reversing all the transfers and changing the passwords of Bolton’s customers before locking the domain names in question to stop them from being transferred without auDA’s consent.

The case is set to begin in the Supreme Court on June 22 – although Bolton is publicly urging the Federal Government and Communications Minister Stephen Conroy to step in and take control of the situation right away.
